How often do you eat sauerkraut? I've been trying to increase my sauerkraut consumption and today I started the day with a daring combination of sauerkraut and sausage. I don't like the taste but I eat sauerkraut for spiritual reasons.
I have never eaten it.

>>18233 how did you find krautchan then?
>>18235 Personally, I searched for "online forum for discussing sauerkraut". I love sauerkraut. But I also love rotkraut and savoy cabbage.
Haven't eaten it since I was a kid where it was served a lot for meat stuff. Prefer coleslaw or red cabbage for myself.

At least once per week. When I'm feeling lazy I eat peas with saurerkraut. It's also standard side salad to schabowy (pork schnitzel) and whitefish. Also nice addition to various ghettoburgers.
Once in a decade
>>18239 you should eat more
>>18232 Regularly. My favorite is to eat it with pureed potato and of course sausages.
>>18240 No its bad for acne
>>18242 Der Bernd wieder. Meine Fresse.
English, motherfucker, do you speak it?
I tried it once. Didn't like it.
>>18257 >English, motherfucker, do you speak it? Le forum s'appelle-t-il /int/ ou /en/, espèce de fils de pute?
Sorry, I don't speak frog.
I like it (but I don't eat it often). It goes particularly well with Saumagen and mashed potatoes. Saumagen looks strange and has an even stranger name (meaning pig stomach), but the taste is similar to heavily spiced sausage. Sauerkraut produces very stinky farts, by the way.
I like it but it makes my ass smell bad so i dont eat it
I eat sauerkraut at least once a week in the cuntine at my work. Russian kvashenaya kapusta is vastly superior in terms of taste though.
Nürnberger with sauerkraut and bread rolls are one of my comfort foods. I eat it at least once a month and it takes 10 minutes to make. I eat it with knife and fork side my side and don't put it into the bread rolls because I find it more convenient that way.
Which spiritual reasons?
>>18333 Been to Nürnberg this year and I can confirm. It's pretty good and also was a perfect snack for a short break when exploring a city. You can get it anywhere, the price is alright and you can eat it on the go.
>>18232 I eat it every other day. Usually in the form of kimchi. Everyone should make their own Sauerkraut to harness the microbiological benefits. Sauerkraut from the store is often pasteurized, meaning there are little to no microbes in the kraut. It's stupidly easy. Just cut or shred cabbage, knead in regular salt and spices you like. Jar it, store in the fridge or basement and occasionally open the lid to stuff everything down, so the gas can escape.
>>18394 >Sauerkraut from the store is often pasteurized This was news to me. Is there a way to buy unpasteurized Sauerkraut? I'm just too lazy to do it myself.
>>18398 Search in the refrigerated section of the store. Sometimes there is living Sauerkraut sold in bags. When it is unrefrigerated and in a jar, there is the risk of pressure buildup from the gas the microbes produce.
>>18394 My parents used to make Sauerkraut using a special big earthen jar and a grater for whole heads of cabbage that fit onto its opening. Its opening had a rim that was filled with water and the lid dipped into the rim. It was an otherwise airtight seal that let the CO2 out as it formed because the pressure was higher inside. The smell from the fermentation was pretty awful, but of course it produced good Sauerkraut.
>>18394 >>18402 Does self-made sauerkraut taste any different to store-bought sauerkraut?
>>18294 I think the difference is that Russian version is less salty and fermented than German.
>>18412 I seem to recall that it was more, well, sour. There wasn't much time overlap between eating self-maded Sauerkraut and store-bought Sauerkraut and also I was a little shit and not paying attention to such things.
>>18412 Sure. I eat Sauerkraut once a Month, best Way is Sauerkrautrouladensuppe/Sarmasoup. I dont have any balcanic Ancestors but some yugoslavian Friends, and the Mothers who make the Sauerkraut themselves have the best tasting intense!, sour and spicy(not hot) Sauerkraut. And I love to check the big Barrels in the Gardens or on the Balconies, the smell is awesome. No Im not underage, ppl from Yugoslavia are just friendly and still invite you after 20 Years for Weekendmeals if you are polite. Yoghurt/Kajmak is missing on the Picture, and there is too much red for me, Yugos/Hungarians often cook Sarma with Paprika. I prefer to cook it 100% without.
>>18412 Depends on the spices you add. When in doubt it's better to add less and fewer different spices. Self-made sauerkraut becomes more sour over time, but you can slow this down by keeping it in a cool place. In my experience it almost stops fermenting at a certain point and just stays as it is for several months.
I ate kfc coleslaw once, is that the same? Looks similar
>>18660 nah, coleslaw is basically tasty fresh cabbage with mayo, while sauerkraut fermented nasty stuff, I tell you
Coleslaw is quite sweet because it's American, so of course it is. Tastes good, but it's probably not very healthy. And it's not fermented, so nothing like Sauerkaut.
Regularly. I eat sauerkraut or kimchi every day if I have them available. Healthy and great way to add depth of flavor to a dish. For breakfast I like to make hashbrowns (rosti, basically) with a thin layer of sauerkraut and cheese on the top.
>>18232 Try it cooked. You cook it in broth, either vegetable broth or whatever you like. Till the liqid is gone. Eat with Schupfnudeln.
>>18242 Bad for acne just means it will fight acne. Good for acne would be worse.
>>18232 i cant eat sauerkraut and many other things, mostly fruit etc., because the acidity softens my tooth enamel and i lose the ability to eat solid food for several hours because chewing becomes extremely painful
