What does Bernd think of the new US service rifle calibre? I think an intermediate intermediate round has potential but the round they are using is just a necked down 7.62, so it will have the same issues that round has in regards to ammunition weight and magazine capacity. So I think it's a mistake and they should stick with 5.56.
It makes no sense unless you go with the official reason, being that a more powerful caliber is necessary to counter new and future body armor.
>>18834 I don't actually think body armour is that useful, yes it protects vital organs so it can stop a injury becoming a death but they don't cover much really and soldiers in body armour still get suppressed. In the footage I see from Ukraine body armour doesn't seem to do anything. But also it's possible stronger plates would be made to stop the new round and then the larger calibre would be pointless.
>>18835 >In the footage I see from Ukraine body armour doesn't seem to do anything. So you missed the moment in the knife fight video, where the Ukrainian catches a couple rounds to the chest, falters briefly, then carries on like nothing?
>necked down 7.62 so what's the proposed caliber?
Added mass might be important against drones in the future. They don't bleed, so you absolutely have to knock out a vital component like a propeller or motor or explosive payload.
>>18882 Yes, I stopped following the war a few months ago. It just got too monotonous. >>18896 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.277_Fury It also has a steel base so it can get much greater pressure but you could do that with any cartridge. >>18902 You have to hit it first. It seems that if you hit a drone with any kind of bullet it gets taken down. Yes they don't have blood but they are still fragile.
>>18942 >You have to hit it first. It seems that if you hit a drone with any kind of bullet it gets taken down. Yes they don't have blood but they are still fragile. Maybe he's thinking of future UGVs or some such things.
>>18949 Maybe. I am not sure how fragile robot dogs are nor what the prospects of making armoured dogs in the future would be.
>>18835 armor protects you from shrapnel and frags
>>18979 Yes I know that, but I am talking about bullets.
>>18942 >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.277_Fury >6.8×51mm Common Cartridge dunno, maybe an interesting experiment
>>18981 i'm saying that armor is useful just for protecting against shrapnel
