What the hell is an anglo-american accent? There's correct (British) English and its variants (Australian, NZ, Liverpool, Irish), then there's Ameriglob.

As a young adult I was always very keen on getting rid of my German accent. When I traveled New Zealand and met mostly other Anglo tourists (and the Kiwis of course) my English was good enough to not be able to tell where I was from. Like they could tell I wasn't native but they couldn't pin down the accent which was a big achievement for me. Nowadays I don't give a fuck, I sometimes even lean harder into German accent becaue it's funny. After all: "I speak english because I can, you speak it because you have to."

>>30064 It's actually interesting how that differs from culture to culture. When I was in Belgium and the Netherlands everyone spoke English with quite strong Dutch accents. They for example had the ability to pronounce 'th' but just chose not to, and considered it tryhard behaviour. In Poland though everyone does their best to pronounce things correctly. If it's wrong it's just wrong and there's no pride in that.

I try to speak with a somewhat mid-atlantic accent. I'm not a Brit and not an American, why should I sound like one? On the same token, speaking with a thick accent of our native language is cringe and uneducated as well.
