It seems clear to me their imperial past brought a bunch of aliens to their homeland. Greece for example is very diverse, you can find anything from a poster tire aryan to a brown turk in there. Spain is similar but in relation to the more western phenotypes. It is remarkable that all people I have met from Barcelona looked unironically Moroccan. Basques tend to be that borderline hobbit very Iberian alpinized look and northern Spain/Portugal, particularly in mountainous areas, have people with a much more northern look
