The otherday after doing some research on what Mike is I found out that those cat figures with the raised paws that one sees in Chinese establishments are not actually Chinese they originated in Japan. Interestingly. Usually you would think it would be the other way around.

Interesting! It actually came much later than you might expect from trade to Hong Kong and Taiwanese it diffused to china only in The 1980s
>>8180 Huh. That is recent. Communism is bad at creating culture I guess.
>>8192 The cat is far older than communism though.
>>8194 Yes but the Communist Chinese haven't really been able to create their own culture and are instead importing it from Japan(a country they are not on good terms with). We see this with games like Genshin Impact too. I love Genshin Impact but it very clearly doesn't culturally originate from China.
>>8195 What brain rotted zoomer evaluates a culture by its gacha games? They're all cancer. I'm certainly an uncultured swine, but Genshin Impact as an example of modern Chinese culture? It would have been better if you said that they is none.
>>8197 I disagree with your opinion on Genshin Impact but putting it aside that kind fo is the point. We are talking about the second largest economy in the world with the second largest population in the world. A place that used to think of itself as the whole world and act like it was the whole world. But culturally, what are they producing now?
>>8192 Modern Germany doesn’t have a culture as well.
>>8202 That's true and it's something I have pondered on too. In Germany's case I think it's due to the fact that they are Americanised and consume a lot fo American media, hence they don't have the impetus to make their own like they do in Japan or China(China does make media it's just not very good and doesn't have much cultural impact).
>>8202 The last time I've been to Berlin, I visited circus shows and theatres. Why do you think that Germany has no culture?
>>8204 I mean stuff that is intrinsically German and not stuff imported from other countries. German traditions etc are only alive at small parts of the countryside, in big cities you won’t find much of it.
>>8212 But these were groups from Berlin. Yes, theatre and (probably?) acrobatics existed in Ancient Greece, but it would be asinine to disregard these things because they are not "intrinsically" German. I mean, what even is? Germany isn't even 200 years old.
>>8213 German culture existed for far longer than the modern German state, they aren't the same. In charters of some Late Medieval guilds they exclude Non-Germans, so the notion that ethnicities were invented in the 1800's is a lie.
Anyway - since this is a figure thread - Berlin has a bunch of old manufactories that can be considered German culture. Making tin and porcelain soldiers is an old craft that goes back to the Prussian Kangs. The porcelain is considered kitsch nowadays and most they sell to the Chinese (ironically, since the point of these first European manufactories was that they didn't have to import it from China anymore), but you have to appreciate the craftsmanship of the painters.
>>8215 I agree, whether something is culture/art or not shouldn't be determined by whether you like it. There are also these Swiss plates and jugs with boomer-tier proverbs I forgot where I found them, but they were quite cringe. However, it's their tradition and culture, and if they want to brighten their day by reading something "deep" on a jug, they should do that. Now, is it intrinsically Swiss? Probably not. Probably, there are Roman and Greek jugs with some deep proverbs written on them. But it shouldn't matter, cultures evolve and mix over the millennia.
>>8215 My grandma had porcelain figures but they broke, Very fragile.
>>8220 Part of the appeal, there's some professional restorers so the broken part is only visible under UV light. But it's only worth it if they're of collector or sentimental value to begin with. Heinrich Himmler famously ran his own manufactory out of Dachau (Allach Porzellan), these along with Meissen and KPM Berlin still sell for thousands.

>>8195 > I love Genshin Impact I don’t mean to be rude but Genshin Impact is only good for the porn and when Polandball did a Collab on r/place. I never played the game so I can’t say about that. but most of the community are losers, your cool because you post on KC but idk
>>8255 If you have never played the game then you can't really comment on it. I don't really know or care about the community but it wouldn't matter as I don't let other people dictate what I do or don't do.
>>8256 Ah ha an Appeal to Ignorance logical fallacy, you know that I won’t play that game and can’t prove you wrong therefore your argument must be right. Sorry Bernd but I heard the game play sucks. It might be a fun game I’m just pulling from sources with a pre-established prejudice towards the game, you can like what du enjoy. Sorry if this made you offended.
>>8266 It's not a fallacy. Not only have you not played the game but you don't even have any criticisms of it other than 'others say it's bad so it must be'. I like the game play. I'm not offended, I get this all the time and it's always from people who have never played it.
>>8269 Sorry Bernd for contributing to a misunderstanding.
